Edinson Cavani has officially signed for Manchester United, ending months of speculation over the destination of the striker following the expiration of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

Not since the 2007-08 season had Cavani failed to reach double figures in a league campaign but bet365 make it just 8/11 (1.73) that he nets 10 or fewer for the Red Devils in 2020-21.

The forward is set to provide some much-needed cover for Anthony Martial as Man United begin a testing campaign in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

United have already made a dreadful start to their domestic season, losing 3-1 to Crystal Palace and 6-1 to Tottenham at home, with their 3-2 victory at Brighton coming courtesy of a penalty awarded after the final whistle.

Although Cavani is unlikely to feature from the start with too much regularity, his experience and talent will provide another option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if his usual starting trio of Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood fail to make an impact.

Quarantine rules mean that the former PSG man will not be available for the first match following the international break, with government rules dictating he must self-isolate until October 18 – one day after United play Newcastle.

It also remains to be seen how much he features initially, given that his last competitive appearance came back in March following the early curtailment of the Ligue 1 season and then the expiration of his PSG contract in June.

It is 7/4 (2.75) that Cavani nets between 11 and 14 goals inclusive, a return which would certainly be welcomed by both Solskjaer and the Old Trafford faithful, whilst 15-19 strikes is 13/2 (7.50).

Robin van Persie was the last the last Red Devil to score 20 or more league goals in a single season and bet365 offer 20/1 (21.0) on Cavani reachingthat mark -some eight years after the Dutchman achieved it.
