Ronaldo hopes Supercoppa triumph provides Juventus springboard back into Serie A race

Ronaldo Supercoppa 2021

Cristiano Ronaldo hopes that Juventus can use their Supercoppa win over Napoli as a springboard back into the race in Serie A.

He was joined on the scoresheet by Alvaro Morata, who provided a goal with the last kick of the game to seal the victory for Juventus.

The trophy is Ronaldo’s fourth with Juventus, having joined the Serie A giants from Real Madrid in 2018.

However, the club’s pursuit of a Serie A crown will be difficult this season, with Juve in a legitimate race for the Scudetto having won the title nine seasons running.

As things stand, Juve sit fifth in Serie A, 10 points behind league-leaders AC Milan with one game in hand.

In between the two historic giants are Inter, Napoli and Roma, as the Serie A title race is tighter than it has been in years nearly halfway through the domestic season.

After getting his hands on the Supercoppa on Wednesday, Ronaldo said he hopes that lifting a trophy could be a confidence-booster as Juve look ahead towards a difficult title race.

“We are very happy with the win, it was difficult, especially as the pitch was terrible, but we got it done,” Ronaldo told RaiSport after the match.

“We showed a different attitude to the bad performance against Inter. That is the past, this is a very important trophy and we hope this can give the team more confidence going into the future.”

He added: “Milan and Inter are very strong, but I believe we have what it takes to win. It’s going to be very difficult, but I believe the Scudetto is still possible.”

With Wednesday’s goal, Ronaldo has now scored 21 this season, taking his career tally to 760 for club and country.

Following the win over Napoli, Juventus will face off with Bologna on Sunday as they look to gain ground on the clubs above themin the Serie A race.
